Pinoy Body Arts

The Body Arts industry has undergone dynamic growth for the past few years now. Thus offering significant opportunity to both talented artist and local business entrepreneurs. This fast emerging industry has helped enhance the creativity of our local talents which has reached global reputations. However, local supplies of good quality genuine tools, supplies and materials to further uplift the standard of the industry has been recognized to be insufficient, over-priced and most often of low quality standards.

Recognizing the needs of the local Body Arts talents, the company has embarked in diversifying its business by creating a new division to address increasing demand for Body Arts supply paraphernalia and other modern tools of the trade within the reach of the local artists. We search, test and deliver state-of-the-art Body Arts products which include Equipment Kits, Genuine US Inks and Pigments, machines, spare-parts, consumable materials and other related products from most well-known reliable suppliers worldwide.

Best Philippine Attractions

Mabuhay (pronunciation: mah-BOO-high) is a traditional Filipino greeting and expression of jubilation that literally means “Long Live” in English. The root word “buhay” is Filipino for life.

Take the Amazing Wow Kay Ganda Pilipinas Challenge: How Many of the 7100 Islands Can You Explore?

The Philippine archipelago is a cluster of 7100 islands extending for nearly 2000 kilometers across the warm tropical waters of the Pacific. The country is home to an evolutionary explosion of more than 4000 species of trees, 160 species of mammals and over 240 species of reptiles all packed within this small geographical landscape that Filipinos call home.

Despite the fact of the country’s close proximity to our other Asian neighbors, Filipinos are the least “oriental” of them all and has this unique ability to blend well with any culture, race or creed from anywhere in the world and everywhere the Filipino Diaspora has reached. And yet, Filipinos still maintain all the enigmatic qualities that are truly Pinoy… qualities that are unique and found only in the Philippines.

And that is what the symbol above signifies… the Philippine archipelago symbolized by a single island… a single mass of land that can be called truly our own.

For indeed the Philippines is ONE.

Despite the many pockets of land sprawled across the Philippines seas…. despite the small intricacies and peculiarities each inhabitant has… despite the differences in dialects and unique customs…. the Philippines and the Filipino is still ONE – one loving heart, one friendly disposition, one dream and one hope for the nation.

And if you come to know the language, you will surely exclaim….. Wow… Kay Ganda…. Pilipinas (Wow! How Beautiful is the Philippines!)

This is a call for challenge… to Filipinos, non-Filipinos, and Filipinos-at-heart… to come and explore each of the 7,100 islands and know firsthand what makes every island tick…. what makes every island beautiful… what makes every inhabitant truly Filipino…. what makes us ONE.

It may seem like an impossible task… if given all the resources and allowed to travel to one Philippine destination every month for the rest of your life. But wouldn’t that be one very exciting and very worthwhile impossibility? Wow!

The race is on…. now!

Brown Like Wood, Filipino by Blood

Welcome to the World of Urban Patriots.

The FrancisM Clothing Company, or FMCC as it is fondly called by its loyal customers, all started as a dream. Composed of four young men, with varied specialties, this brand has flourished and continues to trail blaze a path few would dare to tread. Filipino musician and youth icon Francis Magalona, creative designer and graphic artist Carlo Maniquiz, businessmen Itoy Villajin and Willy Velasquez, have banded together to put a product that sought to "Filipinize" the whole world. Initially aiming its market to an impoverished Filipino youth hungry for an identity, the demographic of their market gas grown. Started as a challenge in 2005, the business officially started in 2006, and at present has created a social epidemic of gargantuan proportions.

History
In 2005, Francis Magalona and Carlo Maniquiz decided to make a Filipino brand worthy to be recognized in the world stage. They were both working for a foreign clothing brand for the past five years and their collaboration with the label produced innovative design creations and, music-wise, saw the release of an award winning rap compilation album. The pair decided to resign in order to focus on a local company they started geared with only their dreams and fresh ideas in hand.

Later that year the two were joined by Francis' former colleagues from the dance industry, Itoy Villajin and Willy Velasquez. They sought to embark on an ambitious project that espoused the ideals of Francis' music. In a career spanning more than two decades in cinema, radio, and television, his music has won numerous awards from the music industry. Their themes were socially relevant, and its nationalistic fervor is most evident in his first monster anthem, Mga Kababayan in 1990.

Calamay- Bohol's Must-Have Treat

They say that a trip to Bohol would never be complete without bringing some of its signature delicacy, a simple yet sweet treat in native coconut shell, the Calamay. So don’t forget to bring home some of these for those with sweet tooth at home.

Calamay is known across the archipelago and there are many versions of it in different regions of the country. This is so because its procedure so easy to follow and the ingredients are very common.

Basically, its composition is made up of well-milled glutinous rice, coconut milk, sugar plus chopped peanuts as optional. The milled rice is then poured into the half-heated coconut milk. Constant stirring is needed until the right consistency of stickiness is achieved. This what makes Calamay famous. Two hours of constant stirring over low fire is not a joke. It resembles the patience, dedication and hard work of every Boholanos.

Pinakurat Fermented Supersauce

Friedrich Badelles of OZ GLOBAL TRADERS first imported Green Gold Gourmet's SUKA PINAKURAT to Australia in 2007. He approached all the major Filipino food distributors to possibly enter into a distribution agreement Australia wide, introducing himself as the nephew of Rene Stuart Del Rosario, manufacturer and inventor of SUKA PINAKURAT. All were not interested in SUKA PINAKURAT or in distributing for Fritz.Almost identical to Rene and Donna's experiences, these were the many rejections encountered, be it Filipino or Australian distributors. The public was not aware of SUKA PINAKURAT and did not know what it was.

Through all these Fritz with the help of his brother Mitchell and sister Rae and several other friends, believed in the quality of SUKA PINAKURAT and persevered and promoted SUKA PINAKURAT through events and advertising mediums. Fritz created a lot of capital towards market awareness through Filipino Associations, Filipino Festivals and Filipino Fund Raising with a portion of sales going towards the Filipino Association's charity funds. As well as flying to different states and through various internet groups within the Filipino community, Fritz has also invested in two websites, www.pinakurat.com and www.ozglobaltraders.com Oz Global Trader's website is now a successful online store and this site will soon also be an online store.

Fritz's efforts were rewarded and SUKA PINAKURAT are now in retail stores in the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria and very soon will be available in the Australian Capital Territory.

Vjandep Pastel of Camiguin Island

Pastel is the pasalubong for camiguin's visitors, much like every destination in the Philippines has one. (To Filipinos, bringing home something bought from a travel or vacation to family and friends is part of Filipino culture called pasalubong and is the reason why it's so easy to spot Filipinos in airports-- too much baggage mostly pasalubong stuff!)

From simple prayers, sometime in December of 1989, God answered Ella to bake her great grandmother's bread for a hobby, and that is PASTEL.

PASTEL is a Spanish term for CAKE. By our ingenuity in grammar, PASTEL has long been called in English, as a soft dough coffee bun whom the Spaniards has generously taught our ancestors and made PASTEL as part of a Camiguingnon's delicacy. This made PASTEL a common treat in the tables of the affluent Camiguingnon's of the time, especially during special gatherings and occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, fiestas, Christmas and the likes.

Eleanor Popera Jose, a true blooded Camiguingnon, was the first to commercialize PASTEL on January 8, 1990 from what was left of her husband's Christmas bonus, thus dated the beginnings of VjANDEP PASTEL (pronounced with silent "j", which stands for Virgilio Jose AND Eleanor Popera). The initial capital of P120.00 has yielded three dozens of the said buns which doubled the following day and onwards. It was just simply a hobby at first, until Ella saw a great potential in the product, thus, she continued producing PASTEL up to this date.

PASTEL originally has "yema" (custard) for its filling. But during the summers of 1990 to 1993, Ella learned from culinary and baking workshops the rudiments and techniques of baking. She then reformulated the PASTEL to what is now the pillar of coffee bun taste. Today, the VjANDEP PASTEL OF CAMIGUIN has 12 varieties of fillings to satisfy the fancy of your taste buds.

Pastel is available in cheese, langka, macapuno, mango, Pineapple and made-to-order durian, guava, strawberry, chocolate, and special yema

The brothers imbibed their father's love of his work and everything connected with it- no surprise at all they have made it their life's work too. Absorbing and arming themselves with the needed technical skills, the brothers took up studies in welding, electricity, carpentry etc. during their school years. Working and learning from the expertise of craftspeople around them, the brothers discovered their innate talent for art and design and thus set out to make their mark in the furniture industry.

Their experience taught them a good understanding of specific materials and their potentials - its limitations and appropriateness. This often led them to show these materials almost in its natural state- often the most effective manner. Their work experience in Australia moreover exposed them to the residential and commercial standards of the furniture industry.

Already acknowledged by their peers in the industry, Murillo has won twice in the best product design Mugna Award ( Mugna the Cebuano word for, creation when used as a noun; to create, when used as a verb ) during the Philippine International Furniture Show in 2000, contemporary category and 2001, classical category. They also won for the Best Booth Design in the 2004 Cebu International Furniture and Furnishing Show. Their products can be found in many books and magazines published in different regions of the world.

Murillo has in its stable, not only some of the best craftsmen-carpenters and weavers in the industry, both experienced and trained ones, but also the ace that in Allan and Chris, they have the artistic and design talent that makes their products stand out. Being more technology driven than their father before them, the brothers constantly do research and development. They always look for ways to create and innovate-always exploring possibilities. A new interpretation of conventional furniture motivates the duo. Both have strong beliefs that design and function are very important elements in all the products they create.

Allan creates design concepts for the furniture while Chris does mostly the art works like sculptures, paintings, lamps and wall decors. Rattan, wicker, leather, iron, aluminum, wood, abaca, sea grass, and other natural materials are mixed with man-made ones. They play around subtle contrasts on colors, pattern, textures, shapes and forms.

Supremely crafted, clean fluid lines, elegant and excellent aesthetic details-these are the elements that the duo strives to achieve on both transitional and contemporary pieces they design. This reflects the company's enduring and deep respect of the craft while always having an open mind for new and creative ways of material applications and production. At the same time, they recognize their responsibility to their workers, the community and the environment.

The factory and showroom is located in Cebu, Philippines, 20 kilometers from the Mactan International airport. With about 150 craftsmen and craftswomen helping them interpret their designs, Murillo, is a mark for beautiful and truly unique pieces of furniture and accessories.

to become investors.

The brawns of these artisans are molded by the rugged terrain of the archipelago;

Mamasyami Deli Foods

The peanut butter that tastes like success

The delectable taste and appealing packaging of the peanut butter elicited exciting responses of satisfaction and, soon, Mamasyami Deli Foods peanut butter had a life of its own. Almost immediately, Ellen Muros faced higher demand.

This multi-island province famously known for its huge marble deposits is also home to the tastiest peanut butter. Mamasyami Deli Foods, from plain to crunchy, and soon to double zero (no sugar, no salt) peanut butter are now also sold in Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Metro Manila.

Ellen Muros, the flourishing micro-entrepreneur behind the Mamasyami Deli Foods, had an ingenious approach to mainstream her peanut butter in the market by grabbing the opportunity that landed on her lap. She soon discovered that peanut butter could be both her bread and butter.

Ellen started selling products to augment the family income by direct selling of apparel, cosmetics, shoes, and even plastic products. But her distributors could not pay their obligations leaving her indebted with a large sum of money.

That was when Ellen and husband Robert decided to leave the direct selling business and look for other opportunities. Robert urged Ellen to join the 7 Isles Progressive Entrepreneurs Multi Purpose Cooperative (PEMPC), a cooperative established through the help of Department of Trade and Industry – Romblon Provincial Office to assist budding micro- entrepreneurs of Odiongan, Romblon in product development and marketing.

At first, Ellen was undecided on the product she could sink her teeth into. Seeing that the cooperative offered peanut butter raw materials, including the packaging materials, her husband advised her to make peanut butter that could be sold in the local market at a lower cost. While the rest of the members of cooperative were hesitant to use the product labels worrying about additional cost, Ellen fearlessly used the labels, improved the packaging of her product, and made her peanut butter stood out among the rest.

The entrepreneurial spirit of Ellen soared high when the wife of former Congressman Eduardo Firmalo of Romblon bought several of her peanut butter products and gave them as gifts to her friends and colleagues. The delectable taste and appealing packaging of her peanut butter elicited exciting responses of satisfaction and, soon, her peanut butter had a life of its own evolving into a talked about food product of Romblon. Ellen was faced with higher demand almost immediately.

Seeing that her product could compete with other bigger brands in Metro Manila, she sought the assistance of the DTI in Romblon in 2006. She was then tapped as one of the beneficiaries of the One Town One Product (OTOP) Program.

During this period, Ellen established her own business apart from the cooperative's activities. However, she still paid tribute to members of the cooperative, who were mostly mothers, by calling her new business Mamasyami Deli Foods. "Mamas" was a tribute to the mothers of the cooperative. "Yami," a play to the word "yummy," described the unique flavor of the peanut butter. "Deli" was short for delight.

Her initial capital came from loans that her husband sought from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS). In addition, Rodolfo J. Mariposque, DTI-Romblon provincial officer introduced her to DTI assistance on production, market promotion, and product development. With these, she learned different inputs on how she could introduce her peanut butter to the mainstream market.

DTI endorsed Mamasyami Deli Foods to Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to take advantage of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP). The department supported Ellen's business with machineries and other equipment for peanut butter production. Fully loaded, Ellen's business was reconfigurated into full gear.

Going big time

Due to large demands, Mamasyami Deli Foods processing was transferred from Ellen's backyard to a bigger manufacturing place, increasing the production output with the support of five new employees. Who would imagine that this multi-island province famously known for its huge marble deposits could be the source of the tastiest peanut butter too? Now, Mamasyami Deli Foods distributes not only in Romblon but also in the provinces of Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro and Metro Manila.

Ellen manages her business personally and treats her employees like associates, friends, and family members. Considering the well being of her patronizing clients, she introduced good manufacturing practices in her company by providing her employees with sanitary safeguards like gloves, uniforms, and other paraphernalia.

When asked for the formula of her success, Ellen simply says, "Innovation is the name of the game." Mamasyami Deli Foods' owner always checks the market segment before embarking on new products.

Mamasyami Deli Foods is still undergoing product development as it introduces new product lines, such as plain, crunchy, double zero (no sugar, no salt), and a new product variety that will be launched in OTOP Luzon Island Fair in November 2010.

Ellen's business evolution is admirable for her fearlessness in trying new ideas and mainstreaming her product in accordance to the demand in the market. She was not shy to ask for help. Checking the market now and then gave her bountiful ideas on how to innovate and introduce new product lines. But most important of all, Ellen opened and embraced opportunity when it came by her door.
